Caimans Swim Team Wins Greater Tampa Swim Association Championship

The New Canaan YMCA’s Caimans swim team put the finishing touches on their championship season with 38 swimmers competing in the Greater Tampa Swim Association (GTSA) TYR Championship Invite April 8-10 in Tampa, Florida. Led by Open High Point winner Jack Greiner, the Caimans raced their way to the Team Championship trophy with a commanding presence in every race across all age groups throughout the weekend.

Scoring 2,932 points, the Caimans were led by several event winners, including Daniel Constandaki (10 and under 200 IM), Olivia Edwards (11/12 age group 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, and 100 IM), Greiner (Senior Open 200 IM), Kaitlyn Knowles (11/12 age group 100 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 50 butterfly, and 100 butterfly), Deacon Mascarinas (Senior Open 200 breaststroke), and Leila Ridolfi (11/12 age group 500 freestyle).

Several Caimans had top three finishes, including Emma Bieliauskaite, Marta Bieliauskaite, Oliver Carr, Constandaki, Edwards, Finn Egan, Greiner, Mascarinas, Emily Pastushan, and Ridolfi.

Additional top five finishers for the Caimans also included David Delong, Tilly Doak, Lyla Levitt, Skylar Mascarinas, Patrick McGovern, Luke Nardella, Sophia Nurenberg, Jason Pastushan, and Jack Tsai. Rounding out the top 10 finishers for the Caimans, including swimmers already mentioned, were Claudia Blanco, Campbell Greiner, Finley Laurence, Caitlyn McCaughey, and Anja Tarateta.

“The coaches and I are extremely impressed with how far the Caimans have come over the last year, becoming a successful team filled with confidence, commitment, and dedication. We’re really looking forward to building on this experience as we head into our long course season this spring and summer,” shared Brian Fazzino, Director of Competitive Swimming and Caimans Head Coach. The Caimans are turning their attention to the spring and summer long-course season which kicks off with the first meets in mid-May.

The Caimans will be hosting try-outs for those interested in joining the team for the 2022-2023 season on June 9 (4:30-5:30pm), August 2 (4:30-6:00pm), and August 4 (4:30-6:00pm). Try outs are open to strong swimmers ages six and older, ranging in competitive swimming experience from beginner to advanced.
