The New Canaan YMCA is proud to continue providing virtual online fitness classes for active older adults in the community. Offered to New Canaan YMCA members at no cost, virtual fitness classes include Chair Fitness, Chair Yoga, and Chair Pilates, led by New Canaan YMCA Instructors.
Livestreamed from the Y, each 60-minute virtual fitness class is offered Monday-Friday from 11:00am-12:00pm. The 8-week session began on Monday, June 29 and continues through Friday, August 21 with a rolling enrollment. As part of its mission for healthy living, these virtual fitness classes allow at-risk members to stay active, healthy, and safe from home.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue providing online classes for our senior members through virtual streaming from the Y. Staying active, even from home, is essential to the health and well-being of our members,” commented Kristin Schnitzler, New Canaan YMCA Group Wellness Director and Registered Dietician.
Chair Fitness improves cardio, core, balance, and strength while seated in an upright chair. Chair Yoga is a gentle yoga class that helps improve postural alignment, maintain pelvic mobility, reduce muscle tension, and gain strength through flowing movements with the help of a chair. From the chair to the mat, Chair Pilates simultaneously strengthens and elongates all muscles of the body, focusing on the core using body weight movements for a healthy spine.
Registration is open online and at the Front Desk.
