Y Announces Winner of Griffin Conway Memorial Scholarship

The Griffin Conway Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014 to honor and celebrate the life of Griffin Conway. On behalf of the Conway family, the Y is honored to offer this scholarship to one graduating New Canaan High School Senior that has demonstrated leadership and passion for the New Canaan YMCA Basketball League. We are thrilled to announce this year’s scholarship recipient is Dylan Miles.

Miles not only participated in the Y Ball league, but also embodies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. He will be continuing his education at Florida Atlantic University, and plans to pursue a degree in Secondary Education, concentrating in either Math or Science. Miles credits his love for teaching to his mother, aunts, and grandmothers, as well as the teaching staff at New Canaan High School. “I always admired the wonderful teachers I had in New Canaan. Not only did I aspire to possess their knowledge and experiences, but also their ability to inspire my classmates and me,” said Miles. He recently began his journey as an educator, completing his high school internship at East School in New Canaan.

Amy Jone, Y Ball parent, said, “To me, Dylan embodies what Y Ball is about. If enthusiasm, joy, sportsmanship, and teamwork showed up on the scoreboard, Dylan would have dominated the league.”

We offer our congratulations to Dylan Miles, and wish him the best of luck as he continues his educational career in Florida.

Griffin Conway was a long-time Y-Ball participant who promoted sportsmanship and teamwork not only with his teams, but in the overall league as well.  As a Y-Ball volunteer coach, Griffin mentored younger players, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-confidence, along with helping to foster a love for the game.
