Whirlwind Diving Hosts January Masters Diving Invitational Competition

The New Canaan YMCA’s Whirlwind Diving hosted its first Masters Diving Invitational on Sunday, January 19, where 10 divers came together from Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island to compete.

Ranging in age from 28-65, divers competed in three events, including the one meter, three meter, and synchronized diving. Whirlwind Diving’s Gail Heaslip was crowned the one meter champion, and finished with a silver medal in the synchronized diving event with her diving partner, George McGann of East Coast Masters Diving.

“The group of athletes had a great time and even learned some new dives at the warm up. We look forward to hosting this group of talented athletes in the future,” shared Adam Vance, Associate Diving Director at the New Canaan YMCA.

The New Canaan YMCA’s Whirlwind Diving program serves athletes from the beginner to elite levels. Whirlwind coaches strive to develop each individual’s diving mechanics, while creating a positive, safe, and motivating environment.
