New Canaan YMCA Competitive Swimming Director and Head Coach of Caimans Nominated for Fitter & Faster/ASCA Age Group Swim Coach of the Year

The New Canaan YMCA’s Competitive Swimming Director and Head Coach of the Caimans swim team, Suzanne Lancey, has been nominated as one of 50 Coaches in the country for the 2019 Fitter & Faster/American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Age Group Swim Coach of the Year.

The Fitter and Faster/ASCA Age Group Swim Coach of the Year Award highlights the importance of great age group coaching to set the stage for future success in the sport. On an annual basis, ten coaches and the eventual winner are honored at the ASCA World Swim Clinic. This is the 6th-straight season in which the ASCA and Fitter & Faster have partnered for the award.

Lancey is one of eight women nominated for the award in her fifth year as head coach of the Caimans swim team. She is a level 5 ASCA coach and level 2 ASCA Masters coach, having coached national junior team members and Olympic Trials qualifiers, as well as Masters National champions and international record holders.

“There are so many reasons I am proud of the team and how far we have come over the last few years, including, winning the CT Swimming Age Group Championships, moving up over 100 places in the national age group rankings, and getting swimmers involved in local and national swimming governance,” stated Lancey. Not only is she proud of the Caimans success in the pool, but also the team’s bond outside of the pool, “I am most proud of our team for the strong sense of family we share, whether we are practicing, competing, or volunteering together with our Y and outside organizations. We are not just a team, we are family.”
