Registration Available for 2020 Y Summer Camps

The New Canaan YMCA summer camps offer a variety of experiences for children of all ages and abilities in the community, providing safe and supervised fun by caring, responsible staff. Registration for the New Canaan YMCA’s 2020 summer camp programs is now available at the Y. Current New Canaan YMCA members may also register online at www.newcanaanymca.org. Summer members may begin registering March 2 at the Y.

All campers must be New Canaan YMCA members in order to participate in camp. In addition to the traditional annual New Canaan YMCA membership, which allows members to utilize the Y and its programs year-round, a Summer Youth Membership is also available for all sessions (June 22-August 14) and is for those who are interested in participating only in summer programs and camp. Registration for Summer Youth Members begins Monday, March 2, at 9:00 AM.

Camp programs are available for ages three and older and are offered as four, two-week sessions. Session dates are as follows: June 22-July 3, July 6-July 17, July 20-31, and August 3-August 14.

Camp Mini is open to ages three to five (pre-k) and is a child’s first summer camp experience. Held at the Y, Camp Mini provides a safe and comfortable camp experience for children to play, grow, and make friends. Camp activities include Bouncing Bears gymnastics, arts and crafts, music, outdoor sports, playground time, swim lessons and free swim, theme weeks, and special event days. Camp Mini includes a half-day program which runs from 9:15 AM – 1:15 PM, in addition to a full-day program for ages four to five years old that runs from 9:15 AM – 4:15 PM. Extended morning hours are available for children three to five from 8:15 AM – 9:15 AM, as well as extended afternoon hours for children four to five from 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM.

Sports Camp is open to those who have completed grades K-7 and provides an exciting and sports-filled experience, including soccer, golf, fencing, tennis, and basketball, among other featured sports varying each session. Held at the Y, campers have fun with each sport, regardless of their ability or experience. In addition to skill development, each sport also emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence. Camp hours are 8:45 AM – 3:45 PM. An extended day option is available from 8:00 – 8:45 AM and from 3:45 – 5:00 PM.

Camp Y-Ki is an exciting outdoor camp experience for school-age children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Held at Kiwanis Park, campers enjoy the traditional outdoor camp experience, including swimming, nature, canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, and more. Campers participate in traditional camp activities throughout the day with field trips once a session. Returning this summer at Y-Ki, campers going into grades 5-8 have a dedicated time to choose a special activity each week of camp on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Specialty camp activities will be available in four categories including: sports, nature/science, arts/community, and water sports. Camp hours are from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. An extended day option is available from 8:00 – 9:00 AM and from 4:00 – 5:30 PM.

For campers interested in becoming positive leaders and counselors, the Y offers a Leader-In-Training program at Camp Y-Ki for campers who have completed grades 6 and 7. This program is designed to teach our oldest campers about the importance of responsibility, empathy, and working with others while having fun at camp. L.I.T.-focused activities are similar to regular camp activities, but are tailored to meet the needs of our oldest campers. Participants will have two periods of swimming each day, specialty camp activities, and will also attend two field trips; one as an L.I.T. group and another with all Camp Y-Ki participants. Camp hours are from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. An extended day option is available from 8:00 – 9:00 AM and from 4:00 – 5:30 PM.

The Y also offers a Counselor-In-Training program for ages 14-15 available at Camp Mini, Camp Y-Ki, and Sports Camp. The C.I.T. program offers teens the opportunity to become a memorable and impactful counselor and role model to younger campers, while creating peer relationships and developing leadership skills. Camp hours are from 9:00 AM – 4:15 PM and times may vary based on camp placement.

The New Canaan YMCA’s YSN summer camp programs offer children with varying limitations a traditional summer camp experience within Camp Mini, Camp Y-Ki, and Sports Camp. The YSN department offers eligible campers a 1:1 or 1:2 counselor-to-camper ratio at no additional cost. In addition to these inclusive programs, Y-Cares Teen and Young Adult Camp is specifically designed to meet the needs of our participants with special needs ages 13 and older. Held at the Y, this specialized camp offers a high staff-to-camper ratio and a structured schedule that rotates weekly to offer: swimming, art therapy, dance, and music therapy, yoga, group fitness, drama, cooking, and weekly special events. Y-Cares Teen and Young Adult Camp includes six, one-week sessions (June 22-July 31). Camp hours are 2:30 – 5:00 PM.

The Y’s nationally ranked synchronized swimming team, the Aquianas, also offers a fun camp experience. The Y’s Synchronized Swimming Camp teaches boys and girls ages 6-12 basic synchronized swimming skills while also enhancing their flexibility, endurance, and overall comfort in the water. Camp hours are 12:00 – 3:45 PM. A full-day Synchro/Sports Camp combo option is also available. Campers participate in the Y’s Sports Camp from 8:45 AM – 12:00 PM and then attend Synchro Camp from 12:00 – 3:45 PM.
