Kristina Barrett

Kristina joined our Y in 2010 and is presently the VP of Financial Development, Marketing & Strategic Initiatives. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and prior to joining our Y, she worked in the marketing departments of Virgin Atlantic Airways and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In her spare time, Kristina enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing golf, and traveling.


George Bennett

George has been with the New Canaan YMCA since the summer of 2012 when he took on his first ever job as a counselor for Camp Y-Ki. Since then George has been an Aquatics Instructor, Archery Specialist, L.I.T Coordinator, and the Youth and Teen Program Coordinator. After graduating from the University of Connecticut in December of  ’17 with a B.S in History, George accepted his dream job taking on a full-time position at the Y. He has been a local New Canaanite since his days as a kindergartner at East school up until his graduation from New Canaan High School. Post-graduation, George moved with his family to Norwalk.  During his free time, George likes to spend time in the outdoors, explore new places, visit his family in England, and read.


Matt Busse

Matt began working at the New Canaan YMCA in 2019. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Policy from Western Connecticut State University and he is currently pursuing his Master of Science in Recreation Administration from Southern Connecticut State University. Matt has years of experience in recreation administration and program operations in both the public and private sectors. Matt is an American Red Cross certified instructor in pool and waterfront lifeguarding, water safety, first aid/CPR/AED, first aid/CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, wilderness and remote first aid, basic life support, and safety training for swim coaches instructor. In his spare time, Matt enjoys his time outdoors hiking, fishing, and at the beach.


Donna Carpenter

Donna is a preschool specialist with over 20 years of experience in the field. Her passion for developing the Bouncing Bears program is due to her belief in the YMCA mission, and her experience with what the program has done for children in the development of not only their bodies, but their minds. She enjoys contributing to their learning and hopes to bring as many memories and inspiration to the children as she receives. Donna is a certified Gymnastics Instructor from YMCA of the USA and Safety Certified by USA Gymnastics. She also holds KAT (Kinder Accreditation for Teachers) and MELPD (Movement Education & Lesson Plan Development) certifications. Donna is married and has a son and two daughters. She enjoys the outdoors and doing just about anything with her family.


Davie Cedela

During the school year, Davie facilitates programs for the youth in the community, such as the Y-Guide/Princess program, Middle School Madness, Girls on the Run, and Vacation Camp and during the summer she can be found at Kiwanis Park as the Director of Camp Y-Ki. Prior to coming to New Canaan, Davie worked at the Hamden/North Haven YMCA in a number of capacities, including camp counselor, head teacher in after-school and preschool childcare, camp director, and assistant ropes course facilitator.


Mary Coleman

Mary began working at the New Canaan YMCA in June 2011. She is married with two children, Allison and Ryan, and has a shitzu dog named Chewy. Mary attended SUNY Binghamton and enjoys knitting and reading when she is not at our Y. 



Brian Fazzino

Coach Brian Fazzino returns to the New Canaan YMCA after serving two years as the head coach of the Franklin Pierce University Women’s Swim Team. Brian was at the New Canaan Caimans between 2014-2016 as the Head Developmental Coach and an assistant senior coach. Prior to his time in New Canaan, Brian spent time with Eagle Swim Team in Owings Mills, Maryland. While there, he was the head senior coach as well as the assistant coach for the National Training Group. Eagle Swim Team won the overall combined team title at the 2014 Eastern Zone South Championship Meet. In his time at Eagle Swim Team, there were two new senior national qualifiers, and 7 new junior national qualifiers. In 2012, Coach Brian was the Head Age Group Coach at Gator Swim Club in Gainesville Florida. During the time Coach Brian was at GSC, the junior group that he coached was very successful, accomplishing 1 swimmer of the year, 2 state records, 2 Age Group Champions, 2 Age Group Relay Champions, 2 Age Group High point winners, 5 All Star selections, 1 All Star Champion and 1 Zone Selection. During his time in Gainesville, Coach Brian also helped coach the Gator Swim Club International Training Group that consisted of an eventual 17 Olympians from various countries, 2 Gold Medalists, 1 Silver Medalist and a Bronze Medalist. Prior to coaching at Gator Swim Club, Coach Brian was the Head Coach at the Northern Middlesex YMCA in Middletown, CT. During his time there, the Barracudas achieved tremendous success getting as high as 4th in the Yankee Cluster League Championships. The team also broke 16 different team records, had 43 different YMCA New England Qualifiers and 7 YMCA National Qualifiers. Coach Brian also coached one swimmer to a YMCA National top ten finish and back to back YMCA New England Champion. The Barracudas also had 2 Regional Champions, 1 Age Group Champion, 6 Age Group qualifiers, 10 CT top 25 swimmers, 1 top CT swimmer, and a two-time Zone team selection.


Anne Finneson

Anne chose our Y when she returned to the work force in 1999 starting part-time as an administrative clerk.  Over the years, Anne has progressed from part-time to full-time and is currently our Financial Administration Director reporting directly to our CFO. Living in Stamford with her husband and daughter, Anne spends her free time in her garden.


Nicole Jezairian

Nicki has been working at our Y since 1994. She has worked with all ages and abilities, and in many programs during her time here. Some of these programs have included childcare, birth through school age, enrichment classes, summer camp, and fitness. Nicki’s current role is as Director of Community Engagement, overseeing volunteer management, community outreach, international partner collaborations and Livestrong at the YMCA. Nicki holds a B.A. in Psychology from St. Leo College and is currently working toward her MSW from Fordham University. 




Carolynn Kaufman

Carolynn joined our staff as the Director of Special Needs in September 2011. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in psychology at SUNY Albany and her MSED in recreational education from CUNY Lehman College. She is married with two boys and a dog and enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and taking her dog on walks.


Suzanne Lancey

Suzanne began a successful aquatics career in Connecticut at the age of 4, swimming first with the New Fairfield Aqua Bears and then the Wilton Y Wahoos; she also swam with New Fairfield HS and in college. At 19, she began coaching high school swimming and did so until 2014.

In college, Suzanne focused on obtaining her degree in accounting; she was working as an accountant when she made the move to Minnesota with her husband and daughter. In Minnesota she continued her swimming passion by competing with Minnesota Masters and coaching at NHCP swim club, Twin Cities Swim Team/Minnetonka Swim club, Central High School and Bloomington Jefferson High School. In 2007, she started her own club. Today, Suzanne is a level 5 ASCA coach and Level 2 ASCA Masters coach, having coached national junior team members and Olympic Trials qualifiers and well as Masters National champions and international record holders.


Pamela Libertiny

Pam started working at our Y part-time in 1990 and then as a director in 1998. Pam also worked as instructor in YMCA Adult Education as a typing and accounting teacher and worked as volunteer parent and official for the New Canaan YMCA’s Swim Team for over 20 years. She is originally from Lousville, KY and graduated from the University of Kentucky. She has been a Certified Professional in Human Resources since 2008. Pam and her husband have four children who were each active in the Y and she loves the YMCA family atmosphere both as an employee and participant.


Carol Matousek

Carol joined the New Canaan YMCA in June 2000. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from the College of Mount St Vincent and a MS in Accounting from Long Island University.  When away from the Y, Carol enjoys the outdoors, cycling, or running.


Jennifer Muzyk

Jen was a synchronized swimmer at the New Canaan YMCA throughout high school. After college graduation in 2000, she started coaching first part-time, then as the Assistant Director and now as the Director and head coach of the Aquianas. Since joining the coaching staff, Jen has earned the National Coaching Merit Award in 2004, the East Zone Coach of the Year in 2010 and was added to the National Team Pool of Coaches in 2011. Jen is also a National Judge.


Craig Panzano

Craig Is our Executive Director and has been working at Y’s since 1987. Other positions that he has held at the Y include Director of Competitive Swimming, Director of Sports and Fitness, Senior Program Director, Associate Executive Director, and COO. Craig has his B.S. in Health and P.E. from Slippery Rock University and his M.A. in Applied Physiology & Nutrition from Columbia University. He is married with 4 children.


Suzy Pfeifer

Suzy has been an integral part of childcare and camp programs at the New Canaan YMCA since 1996. Beginning with four years as a toddler teacher in the Rainbow Station Infant-Preschool Childcare program and three years teaching in our 3 year old Y’s Little Owl Nursery School, Suzy now oversees these programs as well as Camp Mini and the Kids Unlimited Afterschool Program. She has been the Director of Camp Mini since 1999. Suzy has her CDA from Norwalk Community College. When at our Y, you will often hear, “Hi Miss Suzy” from one of her former students or campers.


Bridget Philipp

Bridget has been at the New Canaan Y since 1998 and in the Health and Wellness Industry since graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1993 with a BS in Exercise Science. Bridget is ACSM certified as a Health and Fitness Specialist and holds several other certifications from AFAA, AASDN, BTS, and the YMCA. Bridget is married to another YMCA professional and has two wonderful daughters.


Josephine Rojas-Einstman

Josephine has been with the New Canaan YMCA since August of 1998 and started out as a part-time instructor and lifeguard. Josephine has been with the YMCA organization since September of 1982 working for the Norwalk YMCA for 16 years where she spent her last 6 year as the Aquatic Director. Josephine has been in her current position of Aquatic Director since 2001. She puts God first in her life, family and close friends, spends time with her daughter, she loves to cook, worship and take trips.


Eva Saint

Eva joined the New Canaan YMCA in 2013 as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. Prior to working at the YMCA, she managed a corporate Wellness Center in Stamford, and coached gymnastics up to national level. Eva is a former gymnast from Hungary, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2016 with a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science. Eva holds several fitness certifications, including ACSM certified personal trainer and AFAA certified group exercise instructor. She lives in Norwalk and enjoys spending time with her husband and pets.


Emma Scalero

Emma has been with the New Canaan YMCA since August 2014 when she began her employment as the Lead Teacher in Rainbow Station’s four year-old classroom. In January 2017, she was promoted to the Rainbow Station Infant-Preschool Childcare Director. Emma has an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, both from Iona College. In her spare time, Emma enjoys working out, watching sports (especially the New York Giants!), and spending time with family and friends.


Kristin Schnitzler

Group Wellness Director/Registered Dietitian

Kristin oversees all of the Group Exercise classes and other Group Wellness programming at the Y.  Kristin is an ACSM certified Exercise Physiologist and has been working at the New Canaan YMCA since 2007 as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor.  She has an Associate’s Degree in Exercise Science, a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition and a Master’s Degree in Nutrition.  Among her many skill sets outside of the Y, Kristin is also a hairstylist, and has been an athlete in several fitness competitions.  She holds many certifications in the Group Fitness field and has over 10 years of Wellness experience.  As a Registered Dietitian, Kristin is also our nutrition resource and provides Nutritional Counseling services for our members.


Will Schwartzstein

Will is a Norwalk, CT native and has been with our Y since 2015 and currently serves as the Sports Director. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Emory & Henry College, and went on to pursue his dream of playing professional basketball. Will has played professionally in Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. When his playing career came to an end he continued on as a personal trainer working with numerous sports organizations (camps, clinics, etc.). Most notably, as a director within the Washington Wizards/Washington Mystics Basketball Camps.


Joseph Somma

Joseph J. Somma is the head coach of the Whirlwind Diving team as well as the Senior Director of Competitive Diving and Sports at the New Canaan YMCA. He founded team in 1997. Joe grew up diving at the Newfield Swim & Tennis Club, was a high school All-American stand-out at Stamford High School, and went on to Clemson University, where he lettered in diving for four years and was a four-time NCAA zone qualifier, an All-American candidate, an All Atlantic Coast Conference champion, and a team captain. In addition to the Whirlwind team, Joe coaches the New Canaan High School team, the Wilton High School team, Convent of the Sacred Heart / Greenwich team, the New Canaan Field Club team, and the Newfield Swim & Tennis team. Joe’s enthusiasm coupled with his knowledge of the sport make him a dynamic and successful coach for divers of all levels. Joe brings a wealth of experience to the team as he completes his 22nd year of coaching. Joe was awarded the Robert Moss Award in 2001, for his numerous contributions to diving. He is a lifetime member of USA Diving, and is the Junior Olympic representative for the state of Connecticut for this organization. During his time at the New Canaan Y, Joe has also coached many top divers including four JO champions and three Team USA representatives that competed at meets such as the British Elite Championships and the Canadian/American Challenge, and one member of the Junior Elite Program. His teams have included over 50 High School All Americans.


Adam Vance

Adam Vance grew up in Pennsylvania , where he was a Pennsylvania State Diving Champion, a high school All-American, and an eight time Junior National qualifier. He attended LaSalle University for two years, where he earned Atlantic 10 Athlete of the Year honors his freshmen year, and a four time NCAA zone qualifier. Adam earned his B.S. in Exercise Science from West Chester University, where he minored in sports nutrition and athletic coaching. He was a two-time All-American in 2010. He also started coaching for the West Chester Diving Program as an Assistant in 2010, and became head coach in 2011. During his time with West Chester Diving, he coached numerous high school All-Americans, Junior and Age Group National qualifiers, and coached the team to a Regional Championship in 2013.


Liz Whitney

Liz has been with the New Canaan YMCA since May 2015 when she began her employment as an Assistant Teacher in Rainbow Station’s Preschool classrooms throughout college. In May 2018, she graduated from Roger Williams University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations. Liz was promoted to Assistant Director of Financial Development and Marketing in May 2019. Fun fact: Liz was a Y-Ki camper. In her free time, Liz enjoys exercising and spending time with friends and family.
