Summer Camp

Counselor-in-Training (C.I.T.)

Our C.I.T. program offers teenagers ages 14 & 15 the opportunity to make a difference in our community, while developing leadership skills and learning to become an impactful counselor and role model to younger campers.

Our C.I.T program is broken into a First Year program and a Second Year and Beyond program. To gain experience in all camps, and to learn how to work with different age groups, each C.I.T will rotate throughout our three camps: Camp Mini (pre-school camp located at the YMCA); Sports Camp (school-age sports based camp located at the YMCA); and Camp Y-Ki (school-age traditional outdoor camp located at Kiwanis Park).

*Due to the size of the program and scheduling conflicts we may not be able to accommodate special requests to be at a specific camp.

FIRST YEAR COUNSELOR IN TRAINING

The first two sessions of camp feature a mandatory four-week leadership training, where participants develop skills and peer relationships in a fun camp environment. Evaluations are conducted throughout the four week training session, and those who successfully complete the session will be eligible for work opportunities for the rest of camp.

As a C.I.T., participants gain experience working with different ages and environments at Camp Y-Ki, Camp Mini, and Sports Camp. In addition to working with younger campers, C.I.T.s enjoy special activities including field trips, guest speakers, and more!

SECOND YEAR AND BEYOND, COUNSELOR IN TRAINING

C.I.T.s who have already successfully completed at least one year of our C.I.T. program will now enroll in our Second Year and Beyond program. This program will have a first session training refresher with evaluations. The following sessions will feature hands-on experience working with leadership staff to plan and implement activities. This will enable the more seasoned C.I.T.s to have the opportunity to practice their skills as future counselors and leaders.

*All C.I.T.s are required to attend pre-camp training (dates will be communicated in May).
