AQUATIC DEPARTMENT

Aquatic Instructor
Pay range:       $10.50-$15.00/hour
Job Duration: Year Round
Positions available Monday through Friday some morning and all afternoons; Saturdays mornings. Certifications in Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard, first Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer not mandatory, but helpful.  Looking for kind hearted, fun staff that has experience working with children. Experience in teaching swimming preferred, but will train. Resumes immediately accepted. Lifeguards (Part time)
Pay range:       $12.72-$16.00/hour
Job Duration: Year Round

CHILDCARE

Child Development Assistant Teacher (Full time)
Pay range:         $15.13-$19/hour, based on experience
Job Duration:     Year Round

Under the direction of the Infant-Preschool Child Care Director and Lead Teachers, the Assistant Teacher will be responsible assisting in daily aspects of the classroom program, and care of children. The Assistant Teacher will work toward providing a program to foster children’s social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth at all times under the direction of the Lead Teachers and Director.

Successful candidates will possess:  Minimum high school diploma but should be pursuing a degree in child development or related ECE field, previous early childhood teaching experience with a strong background in Early Childhood Development, must possess good communications skills and patience, individual must be the ability to work well with children in cooperation with other staff and parents of participants, and be responsive and flexible to the needs of the program.

Child Development Infant-Toddler Lead Teacher (Full time)
Pay range:         $17-$20/hour, based on experience
Job Duration:     Year Round
We are looking for a Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher who will provide a nurturing and safe environment for infants and toddlers to develop and reach age appropriate milestones. The ideal candidate will be a caring individual who enjoys teaching infants and toddlers with the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. You must be available to work full-time between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm and have reliable transportation to the YMCA to ensure consistency for the infants/toddlers and co-workers.

The Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher, along with their co-Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher, will be responsible for directing all aspects of the classroom such as planning and executing daily activities and schedules. The Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher will work toward providing a program to foster children’s social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth using the proper curriculum and development standards.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgement in the care and play with each infant/toddler in their classroom. The teacher will verbally engage the infant/toddlers throughout the day in addition to feeding, changing, and caring for each child as well as incorporating play/learning activities. The Lead Teacher will maintain the feeding, diapering, and nap schedules and will delegate appropriate tasks to the assistant teachers.

  • A strong background in Early Childhood Development is required as is experience with Infants/Toddlers
  • Minimum requirement: ideally pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (ECE, Education, Psychology, Child Development)
  • Must possess good communication skills and strong worth ethic
  • Must be patient, kind, responsive, energetic, engaging, punctual, and reliable 
  • The individual must have the ability to work well with children in cooperation with other staff and parents of participants
  • Must be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of infants, toddlers, and young children
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 30 lbs
  • Provide documentation of a physical examination and a negative TINE test, valid within one year of employment is mandatory

My Playroom Attendant (Part time)
 Pay range:         $13-$19, based on experience
Job Duration:     Year Round

Under the direction of the Kids Unlimited Director, the My Playroom Staff provide a safe, nurturing environment for children ages 6 months and up whose parents/guardians are utilizing our facility. Shifts available Monday-Friday 8:15 am – 1:15 pm Saturday 8:15 am – 12 pm and Sunday 9 am-12 pm. Please contact or email HR at hr@newcanaanymca.org.

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • My Playroom Staff must have at least two years’ experience in babysitting an/or childcare environment.
  • Staff must demonstrate caring for all children and responsibility in their role.
  • All My Playroom Staff must be able to take control and make decisions easily.
  • Be available to questions and address concerns of parents.
  • Help to maintain the playroom in a neat, clean and orderly fashion.
  • Attend workshops, staff meetings special events when requested.
