Caimans Swimmer Makes Waves & Team Excels at Last Splash Meet

New Canaan YMCA Caimans swimmer Kalen Anbar earned the High Point award for the 15-18 boys team at the Last Splash swim meet in Orlando, Florida that took place from July 28-31. The High Point award honors the swimmer who accumulates the highest total points within a specific gender and age group at each swim meet.

Anbar also qualified for the Senior National Championship in addition to earning second place in the 400-meter Individual Medley (IM) and third place in the 200-meter breaststroke with times of 4:30.62 and 2:21.30 respectively; the qualifying times were 4:33.09 and 2:23.29. The rising junior finished the Last Splash Meet earning third place in the 200-meter breaststroke, fourth place in the 200-meter IM, fifth place in the 100-meter backstroke, as well as placing top 16 in the 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter backstroke, and 100-meter breaststroke.

The New Canaan YMCA’s Caimans Swim Team exceled at their Last Splash meet that took place in Orlando, Florida from July 28-31.

The team had a successful finish in a variety of categories, with swimmers earning marks in the top three, top eight, top 10, and top 16 categories. Swimmers Kalen Anbar, Oliver Johnson, and Alex Pastushan placed top three, including Johnson in the 1500 free, Anbar in the 200-meter breaststroke, 400-meter IM, and 200-meter backstroke, as well as Pastushan in the 200-meter backstroke.

In addition to their top three finishes, Anbar earned top eight in the 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter backstroke, and 200-meter IM and Johnson earned top eight in the 800-meter freestyle, in addition to top 16 in the 100 and 200-meter backstrokes, and the 100, 200, and 400-meter freestyle. Pastushan also earned top eight in the 50 and 100-meter backstrokes, as well as top 16 in the 200-meter freestyle races.

Emily Pastushan earned top eight in the 50-meter backstroke and top 16 in the 400-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly, and 200 backstroke. Maddie Nurenburg placed top eight in the 400-meter freestyle, 50 butterfly, and 100 freestyle, in addition to placing top 16 in the 50-meter backstroke and 200-meter freestyle competitions.

Swimmers earning top 16 placements include Oliver Carr in the 50, 100, and 200-meter backstrokes, Ben Maden in the 100 and 400-meter freestyle competitions, as well as Peyton and Deacon Mascarinas, each in the 100-meter breaststroke.

The New Canaan YMCA Caimans Swim Team provides a supportive, instructive, and fun environment for swimmers of all abilities to grow. Youth ages eight and older interested in trying out for the Caimans Swim Team are invited to attend tryouts at the Y, taking place Monday, August 30 and Wednesday, September 1 from 3:00-5:00pm.
