Bouncing Bears is a unique and integrated program that will challenge your child as he or she develops physically and socially. Your child will be exposed to activities that enhance flexibility, balance, rhythm, and motor skills. Age-appropriate classes incorporate music, dance, puppets, relays, games, gymnastics apparatus, skills stations, and creative obstacle courses. An emphasis is placed on community and socials skills, as well as the Y’s core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
The Bouncing Bears program is divided into the following levels:
Little Bears: 12-24 months, with parent
Big Bears: 24-36 months, with parent
Hot Shots: 4-5 years old, child only
Dynamos: 3-5 years old, child only
COMBO CLASSES (Child only)
Dance Jam Gymnastics: Ages 3-5, child only
Gym & Swim: 3-5 years, child only
Dance Jam Gymnastics Combo: Preschool 3-5 yrs. This 90 minute combo class offers 45 minutes of aerobic exercise incorporating different dance styles (hip hop, country, zumba, etc.) followed by 45 minutes of structured gymnastics, learning tumbling and skill progressions along with many other gross motor activities. Children will get fit, rock out, make noise & have extreme fun! Please bring water bottle marked with your child’s name. Classes start in Mind Body Studio/Pick up in Kids Zone.
Gym & Swim Combo: 3-5 years. This 90 minute class features two specialties in one class! Gymnastics Segment: 45 minutes in the Kid Zone developing skills, learning basic tumbling and preschool gymnastics through stations, circuits and games. Swim Segment: 45 minute class taught by a YMCA swim instructor. Children will be accompanied to the pool by their gym instructor and MUST come prepared with their bathing suit on under their gym clothes. Drop off in Kid Zone/Pick up in the Forese Family Pool. Participation in the gymnastics segment only is available, space permitting.
Bouncing Bears Open Gym: Ages 5 & under. Parents are required to stay and supervise play. FREE to any student registered in a Bouncing Bears class. Fee of $15 per visit for anyone not enrolled in a class. Non-members/Y-AWAY members may not register for open gym unless they purchase a day pass prior to paying for admission. Please note open gym times are subject to change and may vary during vacation weeks. For the safety of all, Open Gym is limited to 12 children at one time on a first -come, first-served basis. Passes available at front desk 15 minutes prior to each open gym session.
OPEN GYM HOURS: Mondays, 3:15-4:00 PM; Tuesdays, 11:15 AM-12:00 PM;
Wednesdays & Thursdays, 3:15-4:00 PM; and Saturdays, 9:45-10:30 AM & 10:30-11:15 AM
Make-Up Policy: We will make every effort to provide a make-up class for illness or injury in a regularly scheduled class only if there is space available. All make–ups must be approved and scheduled by emailing Donna Carpenter, Gymnastics & Movement Education Director by calling 203-920-1639.
Workout Attire: Shorts and tee-shirt, sweats, or leotard. No shoes, socks, tights, DRESSES, or jewelry.
