Adventure Guides

Program Overview

Adventure Guides strengthens bonds between fathers and children with group activities such as hiking, crafts, games, outings, stories, and more. Held at various community locations featuring group outings, this one-on-one time in a fun, special environment strengthens relationships and creates lasting memories. Fathers and their children are grouped into different community locations where they are encouraged to complete Adventure Guides activities together.

Community Locations

Community locations are based on their New Canaan Public Schools (NCPS) district. Please refer below for location information per NCPS district:

  • Waveny Park (suggested for South School families)
  • Kiwanis Park (suggested for East School families)
  • Irwin Park (suggested for West School families)
  • Mead Park (suggested for non-NCPS families)

Outings

Throughout the year the New Canaan Y runs several outings and events available only to Adventure Guide participants. We strongly encourage everyone in the program to participate in these fun events. They do require advance registration. More information can be found in the Y’s latest brochure.

Fall 2021 Outing at Camp Mohawk: Saturday, October 2-Sunday, October 3
This event is a traditional campout where communities pitch tents and cook their Saturday night meals around a camp fire. This is also our new member induction ceremony.

Spring 2022 Outing at Frost Valley YMCA
Our second and last outing of the year is held at one of most prestigious YMCA camps in the tri-state area. It’s held in late April includes horse back riding, crafts, adventure courses, and countless trails to explore!

Additional Y Events

Winter Events @ the Y: Held a few time during the winter months, communities get exclusive access to the Y’s facilities after hours for several scheduled events!

Volunteer Days: Held in the winter and spring, these events are open to all Communities wide service events and are planned by your program director and the Compass Bearer.
