This league exists for the youth of our community, providing them with the opportunity to experience and develop basketball skills. The primary objective of the YMCA is to develop people, not professional athletes. All Coaches are volunteers who are dedicated to developing youth and will emphasize the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The league is open to boys and girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade and consists of one practice per week and one game each Saturday from mid-November through mid-March.
Clinic programs are featured for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 1st grade. Boys’ clinics are run by Will Schwartzstein, Sports Director at the Y and former professional basketball player, and girls’ clinics are run by Kim Palmer, NCHS Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach. Participants in clinics learn basic basketball skills through fun games and instruction.
Boys’ leagues are separated by second grade, third grade, fourth grade, fifth/sixth grades, seventh/eighth grades, and high school. Girls’ leagues are offered as second grade, third/fourth grades, fifth/sixth grades, and seventh/eight grades.
All leagues consist of a 10-week season with 10 games plus playoffs. Most games are held on Saturdays and teams will also hold one evening practice each week. League-wide evaluations for grades two through eight will take place on Saturday, November 5 at Saxe Middle School. Players must be registered to participate in evaluation day. Practices will begin the week of November 16 and games will begin on Saturday, December 3. The season will last through March 11.
Registration begins on Saturday, October 1 and end on Monday, October 31. All paperwork is due Tuesday, November 1.
