Classes & Teams
The New Canaan YMCA offers a variety of
classes for swimmers of different ages, abilities and commitment levels.
Synchro Fish
|
(12 week program) A
non-competitive synchronized swimming program. Participants will develop
flexibility and learn basic synchronized swimming skills including extension,
sculling and body positions. In addition, participants will learn to swim
together in a routine to music. Each week will focus on the development of a
specific skill, and there will be a demonstration and skills play day at the end
of the session. Practice Commitment: Class meets Fridays, 4-5:30pm in the Rec. Pool. First class of Fall Session is September 10th. Prerequisites: Must
be able to swim the length of the pool using freestyle, backstroke and
breastroke, as well as be comfortable going underwater. Minnow proficiency
or higher. No synchro experience is necessary. |
Synchro Stripes

(12 week program) A
non-competitive synchronized swimming program. Participants will continue
to build upon and develop skills learned in the Synchro Fish program. This
class will introduce more challenging skills including compulsory figures,
routine elements and team swimming. This class is ideal for those who wish
to continue developing competitive skills at a non-competitive level. Each week
will focus on the development of a specific skill, and there will be a routine
demonstration and skills play day at the end of the session. Practice Commitment
Prerequisites:
Recommended for strong swimmers – Flying Fish/Shark or higher. Synchro
Fish skills assessment, summer club experience or demonstrated ability preferred
but not required. |
Synchro Stars Team

(September – June) A beginning-level synchronized swimming program.
This is the entry to the Aquianas Synchronized Swimming Team. The
emphasis will be on skill development for intermediate competition, including
compulsory figures, extension and routine elements.
. Routines will be offered in the solo, duet, trio and team events.
Strong emphasis will be placed on the team event. Competitive
opportunities available for those who qualify. Practice Commitment: 3 days per week. Prerequisites:
Recommended for strong swimmers – Porpoise level or equivalent. Synchro
Stripes skill assessment, summer club experience or demonstrated ability.
Mid-season enrollment accepted. |
Aquianas Synchronized Swimming Team
|
A competitive synchronized swimming team. Athletes may compete in the solo, duet, trio and team events, as well as compulsory figures. Competition on the local, regional, zone, national and international levels are available for those who qualify. For more information see the ‘Registration Info’ tab to the left. |
