Junior
and Senior Synchronized Swimming Teams Take Golds The New Canaan YMCA hosted the Junior and Senior
Tri-state Synchronized Swimming Association Championships on February 1
and New Canaan’s Junior and Senior teams both took gold medals. This
was the first meet of the new synchronized swimming season and the New
Canaan YMCA Aquianas unveiled their 2009 routines at this event. New
Canaan took home a total of 8 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 5 bronze
medals from the competition, continuing their domination of this
Championship. Other teams
competing were the Hamden Heronettes, Westfield Y Aquaducks, East End
Synchro Swans, Gotham Synchro and Long Island Synchro. In the Junior category, New Canaan won three gold
medals. The team of Laura
Cardi, Amelia Clark, Sarah Dittmeier, Amanda McKenzie, Ankita Mukherjee,
Jennifer O’Neill, Mina Shah and Rebecca Trinklein took the gold with a
score of 65.875, beating Hamden’s 62.439. The trio of Alison Commender,
Dana McLachlin and Mina Shah beat out Hamden’s trio to take gold in
that event as well. The
third gold went to New Canaan’s Lissie Feist who took the gold medal
in the compulsory figures category. In the Seniors competition, New Canaan swept all of
the gold medals. The team of Chelsea Aton, Alison Commender, Colleen
Courtmanche, Madison Crocker, Megan Hansley, Marina Hoffman, Dana
McLachlin, and Kelsey Smith won with a score of 75.658, beating
Hamden’s score of 67.951. In
trios, Courtmanche, Crocker and Hansley took the gold.
Duet gold went to Courtmanche and Crocker.
Solo gold went to Aton and Crocker also won the compulsory
figures gold. Junior Zones will be held in New Canaan the weekend of February 13-15 and Senior Zones follow a month later in Buffalo during the weekend of March 13-15. |
