Here is a sampling of the New Canaan YMCA’s adult sports and wellness specialty programs:

  • Pilates Reformer Classes

  • Parkinson’s Exercise and Movement

  • Cardiac Rehab Phase IV (in partnership with Stamford Hospital)

  • Individual and small group personal training

  • Kettlebell Training

  • Martial arts conditioning

  • Pre- and Post-Natal Water Exercise and Yoga

  • Fitness Evaluations

  • Blood Pressure Screenings

  • Body Composition Analysis

  • Cancer Wellness Program

    This 12-week program is free with a membership to the New Canaan YMCA.  Members meet with a Y staff member who is a certified personal trainer as well as a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist through either the American College of Sports Medicine and/or the Cancer Exercise Training Institute, to develop their program.  The program involves group as well as individual coaching.  Opportunities to participate in special group offerings like yoga, Pilates, spin, and tai-chi will also be offered.  Interested participants must complete a signed medical clearance form and a Health History Form available at the Y or online and return to Diane Dibella in the wellness office.  Questions?   Call Diane at 203-966-4528, x123, ddibella@newcanaanymca.org.

     

  • Live WellChronic Disease Self Management Program

Live well is a workshop designed to help those who struggle to manage ongoing health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, anxiety, heart disease, or any other chronic health condition.  Live Well is a nationwide program researched and developed by Stanford University that provides program participants with techniques to manage their chronic diseases and enhance their quality of life.  In this 6 week workshop you will learn:

  • Techniques to deal with isolation, frustration, fatigue, pain.
  • Suitable exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, & endurance.
  • Appropriate use of medications.
  • Effective communication with family, friends & health professionals.
  • Healthy eating and nutrition tips.
  • Feel better about life

This workshop is supported through The CT Department of Social Services, Aging Services Division in partnership with the CT Department of Public Health, Southwestern CT Agency on Aging, and United Way of Coastal Fairfield County.

Fee- free to members and $15 for nonmembers
