The Y’s Little Owl Nursery School offers programs for children ages two through four and is located at our Y. Our program strives to develop the whole child. The curriculum includes large and small group activities and self-exploration through guided free-play. Large group activities, such as gym games and outdoor play, are planned daily so children can develop large muscle skills, learn about outdoor environments, and express themselves loudly and freely.
The Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are reinforced regularly throughout each day’s activities. This includes building each child’s awareness of themselves and those around them— focusing on respecting differences, being responsible for their actions, being honest, and caring for one another. Children also work in small groups with the teacher on daily projects and a variety of learning areas. Areas may include blocks, books, dress-up, games and puzzles, housekeeping, music, etc. These activities provide the children with opportunities to develop important social skills, such as cooperating, helping, negotiating, and problem-solving.
Additionally, as a benefit of being offered through our Y, our preschoolers are also given the opportunity to experience activities beyond the scope of a traditional childcare program and participate in programs unique to our Y, such as Bouncing Bears gymnastics, music class, and swim lessons.
