Members of Aquianas Named to National Team

Members of our Aquianas Synchronized Swimming team have returned from the National Team Trials that were held this past week in Moraga, CA. Three of the Aquianas were named to the National Team. Olivia Li was named to the 12 and Under Team, and Katherine Connolly and Emma Tchakmakjian were placed on the 13-15 Team.

The Aquianas were assessed on skills and abilities, as well as routine and figures. “These girls have worked unbelievably hard and exhibited so much strength. They’ve put in a lot of extra hours,” says Jen Muzyk, Synchronized Swimming Director at the New Canaan YMCA. “We are so proud of them, and couldn’t be happier that they are getting the opportunity to compete at the international level. It’s a dream come true for any young athlete.”

Li, Connolly, and Tchakmakjian will train in Riverside, California during the months of July and August. The 13-15 Team is also slated to train in Las Vegas, NV. The three athletes will then perform with the U.S. National Team at the Pan-American Age Group Championship August 17-23 in Calgary, Canada.

We offer a variety of synchronized swimming classes for all levels at the Y, whether it be from beginner to elite. The program was founded on the belief that synchronized swimming can be an expressive and creative outlet for young athletes within a competitive environment.
