Aquianas Heading to National Team Trials

Our Aquianas Synchronized Swimming team has recently accomplished some amazing feats. In 2014 they were ranked 5th in the nation, and the team has kept the momentum going into 2015.

In January, the Aquianas had 9 of its members qualify to participate in the National Team Trials held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The girls participated in both the 12 and Under and 13-15 Year Old age groups. There were 75 competitors in each group, and athletes were evaluated on figures and skills. The New Canaan YMCA Aquianas had four team members, Jenna Chen, Katherine Connolly, Olivia Li, and Emma Tchakmakjian, who made cuts and were invited to compete in the next stage of team trials.

Chen, Connolly, Li, and Tchakmakjian will now head to Moraga, CA in April, where they will be assessed on skills and abilities, as well as routine and figures. “These girls have worked extremely hard and we are so proud of them,” says Jen Muzyk, Synchronized Swimming Director at the New Canaan YMCA. “We wish them the best of luck as they compete for spots on the National Team, and we hope they get the opportunity to represent the U.S. in international competition this summer.”

The New Canaan YMCA offers a variety of synchronized swimming classes for all levels, whether it be from beginner to elite. The program was founded on the belief that synchronized swimming can be an expressive and creative outlet for young athletes within a competitive environment.
