The intermediate team is the perfect introduction to competitive synchronized swimming. The girls spend the fall learning basic skills and the winter combining those skills into two routines. In the spring they attend four competitions. Increasing confidence and teamwork and having fun are the major goals of this program.
- The intermediate team is also known as the stars team.
- The program runs September to June.
- The 10 & Under intermediate team practices Mon 5:30-8:00pm, Fri 5:00-7:30pm and Sat 12:30-3:00pm
- The 11-12 intermediate team practices Mon 5:30-8:00pm, Wed 4:00-6:30pm, Sat 9:00-11:30am
- The 13 & Up intermediate team practices Mon 5:30-8:00pm, Wed 6:00-8:30pm, Sat 9:00-11:30am
Your child’s age is the age she will be on December 31st 2015. This is because we are preparing for the 2015 competitive season. It is possible for a girl who is 9 at registration time in August 2014 to sign up for the 11-12 intermediate team if she turns 10 before 12/31/14 and 11 before 12/31/15.
• You must be a member to participate.
12 Week Trial of the Intermediate Team:
In the fall, a 12 week trial of the intermediate team is available to swimmers who would like to try the program before committing to a full year. Participants attend all intermediate team practices, but pay only for 12 weeks. Cost is $725 for New Canaan YMCA members and $775 for non-members. At the end of the 12 week trial they may elect to join the intermediate team or the pre-team for a pro-rated fee.
Season Registration Info:
Past participants receive priority registration starting in August
New participants can register beginning September 2
Past participants in the New Canaan YMCA synchro program (classes, camps, pre-team and intermediate team) are offered priority registration in August. They will receive registration packets via email during early August. Please email Darcy Scott if you are a past program participant and you do not receive a registration packet.
Registration will open to new program participants in August on a first come, first served basis. Most of our new swimmers begin in the fish class or pre-team, but some are placed directly on the intermediate team. Girls with previous synchro experience (e.g. at a summer club) or an extensive background in competitive swimming, dance, gymnastics or diving are most likely to go straight onto the intermediate team. Girls who are 11 and older are also likely to go directly into intermediate, as their increased maturity allows them to learn new skills faster than younger beginners. If your daughter is considering joining the New Canaan YMCA Aquianas and would like to be considered for the intermediate team, please contact Darcy at 203-966-4528 ext. 173 to schedule a free trial class/evaluation.
